Event: Japan Expo USA 2013

Japan Expo USA was August 23-25, 2013, at the Santa Clara Convention Center. This was a small convention that might grow into an appropriate size for this venue if it continued in future years but would have benefited from a smaller venue this year. Comparing the autograph lines, this was a de facto anime convention. Attendees were predominantly interested in anime guests, particularly Gainax character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto. Akihabara idol/otaku singing group Dempagumi.inc benefited from a strong fan base with supporters from other parts of the U.S., Canada and Japan. Hello! Project trained singer You Kikkawa worked very hard, attending many events and wandering the convention floor in addition to her autograph sessions, 2-shot photo sessions and lives. Ms. Kikkawa even joined local fans doing wotagei during the Ally & Sally performance of Remocon Disco (a Mirin song from before Dempagumi.inc) before the Masquerade. Super enthusiastic cheering group Gamushara Oendan made many new fans.
