The 6th annual J-POP SUMMIT Festival was held July 19-20 in San Francisco. In addition to events in Japantown, there was a live music performance in Union Square on Saturday evening. A total of more than 120,000 people attended with nearly 5,000 people for the Union Square live. Singer May'n appeared at J-POP SUMMIT Festival, not-quite-surprised the Union Square crowd by singing a couple songs there and then sang at her own solo live at Slim's on Sunday Night. The audience at Slim's taught her to call San Francisco "The City" or "SF" but never to say "Frisco." She has sung themes for Macross Frontier, Accel World and other anime.

Singer and model AKIRA, sang her debut song, "Aoki Tsuki Michite," the ending theme of the Black Butler (Kuro Shitsuji) Book of Circus anime. Other performers from Japan included original AKB48 member Tomomi Itano, idol group Tokyo Girl's Style, the very cute duo YANAKIKU, human beat-box DAICHI, Una and The Akabane Vulgars On Strong Bypass. The members of YANAKIKU are formerly were part of Missing Link which collaborated on the song "Sayonara" with KURO from HOME MADE KAZOKU. Tokyo Girl's Style was featured in the associated Japan Film Festival of San Francisco which continued through July 27 with HUNTERxHUNTER : The Last Mission, Anohana the Movie and BERSERK The Golden Age Arc III: The Advent.

There were also number of local singers, dancers, DJ, models, fashion creators and Pocky eaters. The official HATSUNE MIKU illustrator, KEI, autographed posters. One block had Ramen sellers and the peak wait for Ramen was five hours.
