June 13th Meeting

According to Bottle Fairy, June is an auspicious month for weddings! So, what do we get when we marry Maximilien Robespierre from Le Chevalier D'Eon, Haruka from Tactics, and Guiche from Zero no Tsukaima? We get the dreamy voice of Takahiro Sakurai, who turns 35 (according to Wikipedia) on the same day as our June 2009 meeting! Happy Birthday, Takahiro Sakurai! We finished D'Eon and Fate/Stay Night last month, but we're picking up Kara no Kyoukai, which was created by TYPE-MOON, the team that did Fate/Stay Night. Marrying TYPE-MOON back with Sakurai-san gives us Lunar Legend Tsukihime: TYPE-MOON created it, and Sakurai-san provided his voice for a bit part. (Please note that Tsukihime is labeled 16up. We apologize for the earlier version which incorrectly said 13up.) Of course, we're still continuing Twelve Kingdoms, Tweeny Witches, Planetes, Code-E, and Rumiko Takahashi Anthology.

As always, many thanks to the Santa Clara City Library for hosting our meetings. This month, we're in the Cedar room.

12:30 The Twelve Kingdoms #3 (13 up)

"Shadow of the Moon, the Sea of Shadow, Chapter 3" - High school students Youko Nakajima, Yuka Sugimoto, and Ikuya Asano have been whisked away to another world by Keiki, a strange man with long silver hair. They just escaped from villagers who persecuted them for being "Kaikyaku", foreigners who are blamed for the country's misfortunes, but monsters have now picked up their scent.

13:00 Kara no Kyoukai - The Garden of Sinners #1 (unrated)
(Subtitled, Fantasy)
Kara no Kyoukai (lit. The Boundary of Emptiness) was originally a novel series created in 1998 by Nasu Kinoko and Takeuchi Takashi, who later went on to form TYPE-MOON, creators of Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night. The first five chapters were released on their doujin website, and the final two chapters were released in August 1999 at Comiket 56. The series was picked up by Kodansha for commercial publication in 2004, and this year (2009) will see the series released on the international market courtesy of Del Rey Manga. In "Overlooking View", the first movie, Shiki senses something more sinister in a string of seemingly random suicides, especially when her friend falls mysteriously ill. Will she uncover the mystery, or will she become the next victim?
