July 9th Meeting

It's an afternoon of three dojos, two Asahinas, and one nursery school. One nursery school: The quintet opens a nursery in Yozakura Quartet. Two Asahinas: Kyon follows Asahina on a Tanabata mission in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and Kyoko Asahina tries to make a film in Diamond Daydreams. Three dojos: Narugami teaches at a kendo dojo for a part time job in Mythical Detective Loki, Jin visits a dojo in Samurai Champloo, and the girls of Muroe High try to attract Azuma to their dojo in Bamboo Blade.

Showings are presented in Japanese language audio with English subtitles and are suggested for ages 13 and over unless otherwise specified. Starting times are approximate: Come early! No-Name Anime meetings are presented in and co-sponsored by the Santa Clara City Central Park Library. Many thanks to the library for hosting our meetings! This month, we're in the Cedar Room. "A Tale of Narugami's Devotion" - Loki is on earth with sons Yamino and Fenrir and mystery-lover Mayura, but Odin keeps sending gods to assassinate him. Verdandi delivers another ominous prophecy to Loki while Narugami (who is Thor, the god of thunder) gets a part-time job as a kendo instructor and falls in love with the daughter of the dojo owner.

"Waiting For You" - Mayor Hime of Sakurashin, human Tuner Akina, mind-reading satori Ao, kotodama user Kotoha, and oni siblings Kyousuke and Touka take care of a nursery school of little demons. When the little boy, Junta, yells at her, Ao contemplates her ability and her brother.

"Azuma's Circumstances and Mei's Circumstances" - The Muroe High girls' kendo team need Azuma to complete their ranks, but Azuma has other problems, and the team resorts to extreme techniques to encourage her participation. At Seimei High, Mei is on a kendo team with an intimidating coach.

1, 2, 3, infinity! In kanji, "mugen" can be written as 夢幻 (meaning "dreams; fantasy; visions") or 無限 (meaning "infinite"). The mathematics symbol for infinity (∞) uses a shape called a "lemniscate" (from Latin "lēmniscātus" meaning "decorated with ribbons").

14:40 The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Season 2 #1

"Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody" - Haruhi Suzumiya destroys and creates the world, but she doesn't know it. It's up to her classmate Kyon to deal with the oddities she unknowingly wished into existence for her SOS Brigade: the enigmatic alien Yuki Nagato, the cute time traveler Mikuru Asahina, and the affable ESPer Itsuki Koizumi. In this episode, Haruhi decides to celebrate Tanabata by making wishes for the future, and Asahina takes Kyon to the past.

Haruhi-chan plays with miniature versions of Haruhi, Kyon, Nagato, Asahina, and Koizumi, plus other minor characters from the TV series such as Kyon's little sister and Asahina's friend Tsuruya (who played baseball with the SOS Brigade and had a role as one of the villains in the SOS Brigade's movie).
