Return with us to Yokohama, Japan, fifty years ago.

Showings are presented in Japanese language audio with English subtitles and are suggested for ages 13 and over unless otherwise specified. Starting times are approximate: Come early! No-Name Anime meetings are presented in and co-sponsored by the Santa Clara City Central Park Library. Many thanks to the library for hosting our meetings! This month, we're in the Cedar Room. It is 1963 in Yokohama, and Japan is no longer a nation devastated by war — but the complications from those previous decades still leave their marks in everyday life. High school student Umi Matsuza (western nickname "Mer") lost her father in the Korean war, but carries on the tradition of raising the signal flags to his ship. Fellow student Shun Kazama never knew his original father, who was sent to war when Shun was born. Together with the student body, they are fighting to save the school's club building from demolition, and growing closer in the process. But struggling to preserve the past in a nation being pulled firmly into the future is always a formidable challenge for those who will try it.
